In August of 2012 our first Youth Ambassador exchange sent 14 Walnut Creek youth to Siófok, Hungary for a week long exchange program. During their visit they were hosted by Siófok families and participated in a number of activities.
In June of 2011 Walnut Creek hosted a delegation from our sister city of Siófok, Hungary. During their stay they were taken up to the wine country for a tour of Rutherford Hill winery and a picnic at V. Satui. They visited the redwoods in the hills behind Orinda, were hosted by the Walnut Creek City Council and enjoyed home hosted dinners with some of our members.
The culmination of their visit was a gala dinner at Boundary Oak where they were hosted by the Sister Cities group and friendship abounded.
Early in 2011 Walnut Creek and the Sister Cities program lost a friend when Peg Kovar passed away. Peg had a long history of activity with the city, the open space program and the Sister Cities program.
In recognition of her many, many contributions the Sister Cities organization raised the funds to purchase a bench to be dedicated to her memory. This bench was installed just across the lawn from the north entrance to the new Walnut Creek library in June of 2011.
